The particulate filter cleaning gun (FAP) was developed for cleaning clogged diesel particulate filters. Why is the particulate filter clogged?
A particulate filter is a system located just before the exhaust pipe, which filters the air and prevents the release of particles generated by the engine that are dangerous to health.
The particulate filter therefore faces a risk of fouling or even severe clogging. Thus, for most models, the particulate filter is equipped with a system to regenerate it. In practice, this works by a process that burns the fine particles that settle in the filter. To regenerate, the filter temperature must be raised to 500/600°C, at about 3000 rpm.
But here is the whole problem caused by a particulate filter: cars driving for use in the city rarely go up to this engine speed. It therefore does not become possible to regenerate the PAF. It is then necessary to manually clean this filter. There are 3 ways to do this :
Pour a cleaning agent into the fuel tank,
A product to clean the filter without disassembly (like the one shown here)
Dismantle the FAP completely and immerse it in a liquid.
