What is cerine ?

Cerine is the addictive acid directly integrated into the additive particle filters. It is designed to improve the regeneration quality of this FAP. Otherwise known as EOLYS, this mixture of cerium dioxide, ferrocene (iron oxide) and solvents is a French invention used mainly by the PSA/Stellantis group (Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Mini with PSA engine, Ford/PSA engine, ...).

This additive will create a catalytic effect by lowering the burning temperature of the particles. Thus, thanks to cerine, you do not need to make long journeys in order for the regeneration of the particle filter to be done correctly. Soot will burn at a lower temperature and thus more quickly on journeys in agglomeration for example.

Its composition has greatly evolved over time with the complexity of the engines, and the hardening of European standards. Each additive generation is therefore specific to a powertrain.

FAP dry or additive?

For information, a vehicle equipped with a "SEC particulate filter" does not have an additive pocket or tank. A "ADDITIVE or WET particulate filter" has an additive tank. This technology is used on vehicles with engines designed by PSA/ Stellantis (range Peugeot, Citroen, DS, some Mini, some Ford,...).

What cerine should I use for my vehicle ?

The simplest solution is to use UNIVERSAL Cerine. It applies to all vehicles. Otherwise, the procedure below will allow you to identify if you need 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation cerine.

Check the colour of the additive tank connector on the rear left side of the vehicle. Confirm the additive reference according to the APV-PR, OPR or DAM number indicated on the left front door of the vehicle (you must follow the compatibility guidelines, as it is imperative not to mix the different references).

To facilitate your searches, we have set up a table to select the FAP additive of your choice, without any risk of error.

As you will have understood, several indicators allow you to choose the right cerine :

1. The date of manufacture of the vehicle. Example: If your vehicle is pre-2002, you know that FTFAP64288 (cerin 1) is the one that corresponds to your PFF.

2. OPR number: the OPR number is used as a reference for Peugeot & Citroën vehicles. It indicates the date of production of the automobile. This number is usually at the left front door.

3. Finally, the color of the connector on the additive tank can also point you. Indeed, when disassembling the additive tank, you will find a color on the connector. This color corresponds, in most cases, to the cerine you need. Be careful, in some countries, the colors are different. In this case, prefer the two previous methods.

Operating procedure:

After following these instructions, follow these steps to ensure optimal results:

1. Connect the filler kit to the additive tank.
2. Connect the kit recovery tube to the overflowing access of the additive tank and place an empty container under the hose to recover the excess additive.
3. Place the additive bottle above the tank level to perform gravity filling (make an air inlet in the bottle to optimize filling)
4. After filling, reconnect the connectors.
5. With the aid of a diagnostic device, it is usually necessary to inform the engine management computer (engine ECU) that the additive tank has been refilled. 

 Note : Eolys/ Cérine is an aggressive product. It is therefore not recommended that individuals fill the FAP additive tank themselves. In addition, it may be necessary to use a diagnostic device to remove the DTC fault code(s) and reset/reset the additive ECU or engine management ECU.
